When Bees Thrive – We Thrive Too

Don’t Delay

Who we are: BeeWise is a small non-profit family organization that evolved from a desire to act to increase the declining bee population. Here my daughter and I pose with a new batch of bees.

After learning about the declining bee population and the devastating effect it has had and will have on the health of our environments, and eventually our own health, our family decided to act. To help protect all bees, we transformed our four acre homestead to a pesticide and herbicide free zone.

Bees rely on the dandelion flower during months when other flowering plants and trees are not yet in bloom. We witnessed first hand; this relationship of bees and dandelions.

Personally being aware of the many who view the dandelion as a noxious weed worthy only of extermination, we decided it’s time to shed light on the true virtues of the dandelion and rid it of this current unpopularity.

Emily and Me with Bees

We promote it as the hero it truly is. Education is key to change. Our mission is to bring light to the harm pesticides do, not only to the environment, but to the beneficial garden variety insects like the honey bee.

If nothing is done to improve the situation, pollination of not only dandelions will continue to decline, but also the nations food sources that depend on pollination.

It’s time to protect the honeybees and to give hope for a healthier world! However we need people like you to get involved. Please commit today to start your own pesticide free zone, and plant some dandelions!

Pesticides Travel Through Waterways

Toxic Water: Pesticides and other like products touted as solutions for eliminating rodents, weeds and funguses, come with harmful effects.

If used haphazardly around water, wild life or food sources, rain carries them away indiscriminately polluting waterways, where wild animals go to drink.

Animals and beneficial insects both rely on these now toxic vegetation and waterways. Worse yet, these toxins build up over time and do eventually end up in our own food and drinking water.

Consider creating pesticide free zones with us. It’s a step in the right direction in helping our waterways become pure again.

Toxic Food: As stated above, pesticides harmful effects do not just relate to water. Scientist have discovered over the last few decades, it may be just as important to say no to pesticides and herbicide, as it is to drugs. Both are harming the health of our bodies.

No to Pesticides

While everyone knows drug abuses occur, not as many are aware of the uses and abuses of pesticides and herbicides that over time have begun to poison our food supplies. Ingesting this ‘poisoned’ food is more akin to being poisoned by degrees. This is because the effects are not noticed immediately, as with street drugs.
Today most of the population wouldn’t hesitate to spray harmful pesticides all over their lawns and gardens to rid them of ‘pesky dandelions and other ‘weeds,’ for the sake of beautification.
However, in the context of what we have learned. These ‘weeds’ have more recently been found to have much in the way of beneficial vitamins and minerals, highly comparable to other leafy greens. So they’re not just for bees!

Health Conditions and Concerns

Honey Bee on dandelion

Protect Health: Honey bees are disappearing, due to these environmental hazards. Bees are beneficial plant and tree pollinators. Fruit trees would be baron without them!
Pesticide free zones, help in the proliferation of dandelions for bees, and help make us all healthier!

Dead honey bee

protect health: Today’s bees are akin to yesteryear’s Canary birds in the coal mines. They were an indicator that the air was safe to breath. If the bird got sick, or died, it was time to clear the workers from the mine. While we can’t leave our planet, we can improve its health by planting dandelions for the bees. Not doing so could prove deadly!

Preacher at funeral by coffin

Protect Health: Like the miners vacating the mine, shouldn’t we recognize there is danger in allowing such a large decrease in the bee population without taking action. We believe this to be a warning we should heed. While we can’t leave our planet, we can improve its health by planting dandelions and not using pesticides. Not doing so could prove deadly for even ourselves!
